Hi All, happy Friday!
I hope your workweek is coming to a relaxing end. Here are your tips and tricks to keep you on top of your goals, this week with a touch of “Zen”.
1. Can you maintain clarity in the midst of conflict?
The Japanese word “fudoshin” stands for the achievement of a clear and determined mind. Thought there is not a word for it in the English language, it roughly translates as “immovable mind” or “unshakable heart”. With fudoshin, one can maintain clarity and tranquility in the midst of internal or external conflict.
2. Rumination can cause lead to negative feelings, but this can be improved with practice.
The process of continuously thinking about the same idea, situation, or choice is called rumination. Repetitive thoughts can magnify stress and interfere with well-being, especially if the thought pattern causes distress. If you are a ruminator, try to stop a negative thought cycle in its tracks with awareness, gratitude, and openness.
Your Weekly Digest: Thought Suppression
This week’s article on MikevanderPoel.com, “How to Stop Thinking About Something, According to Science“, explains the effects of thought suppression, and offers a solution to silencing your inner critic.
We all have an inner voice, a mental guide that responds to internal and external stimuli. This voice can work for us and lead to a positive state of mind, or it can work against us and lead to a negative state of mind.
At times, our inner voice can be critical, harsh, and judgmental. The key to achieving inner peace is not thought suppression, as you might think, but it is acceptance. Learning to come to peace with negative thoughts moves you to fudoshin, an immovable mind that can conquer negative self-talk, worry, and even rumination.
Until next week,
Mike van der Poel
