Hi All!
As always, here’s your weekly On-Track advice, a list of tips and tricks to keep you on track with your goals in life and business.
Before we dive into things, I encourage you to take a moment of reflection. Now that we’re already two weeks into the New Year, it’s a good time to reflect on the work you’ve put toward your objectives so far.
Are you on track to meet your targets? Or has your start been slower than expected? It’s also not too late to set a goal, if you haven’t already.
1. “The more you seek the uncomfortable, the more you will become comfortable.” — Conor McGregor
Last week, I updated one of my most popular blog posts called “Why Great Things Never Came From Comfort Zones (And Why They Never Will)“. There, I talked about the idea that you can get used to seeking discomfort. Stepping outside of your boundaries gets easier the more often you do it as it strengthens your willpower.
One practice that has helped me become more resilient is taking cold showers. Though rinsing your body with cold water is unpleasant and not recommended for everybody, this paper shows that so-called Contrast Showers (where you cycle between warm and cold water between 3 to 5 times) can have incredible health benefits for some.
2. “If you risk nothing, then you risk everything.” — Geena Davis
Chances are that you’ve heard someone say something along the lines of, “No risk, no reward,” or “Risk it for the biscuit.” If you don’t take any risks in life, you can’t create the future you desire. What’s something that you’ve been wanting to do but find too risky? How likely is the possibility of danger, failure, or loss really? And how will you feel later (when you’re much older) if you don’t take the opportunity?
3. “You can’t let fear limit your progress. It will keep you from achieving the greatness you so much deserve.” – Mike van der Poel
This week’s blog post shows why people allow fear to limit their progress. A normal response to avoiding danger is to not do anything at all. Put differently, we like to retreat to our comfort zone where we feel at peace and where we believe that nothing can go wrong.
As mentioned, the comfort zone is a dangerous place. It’s only when you step outside of safe space that you can see tremendous growth.
Until next week,
Mike van der Poel
