Hi All!
Here are your weekly tips & tricks to stay on top of your goals. This week’s emphasis is on reading books, a fundamental skill for self-improvement. I hope you find my suggestions below useful.
1. “The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity.” — Dorothy Parker
Do you ever find yourself being bored when you read something? I certainly do. It’s almost always the case when I am not curious enough about what I am reading. If you struggle with boredom whenever you read, try to be more curious; ask a lot of questions and become genuinely interested in the subject.
2. “I personally love a cliffhanger. I think it just extends the pleasure of viewing.” — Mireille Enos
The cliffhanger strategy is a trick the entertainment industry uses to get consumers to keep watching. It works by ending an television episode when things get interesting. Fortunately, this strategy can be reverse-engineered and be used for more productive means, such as reading. When you come across a segment that you find interesting, close your book and finish your session for the day. That way you’re more likely to return the next time.
3. “It’s doesn’t hurt to pack a book when you leave the house. We all have a few moments during the day to catch our breath.” — Mike van der Poel
This week’s blog on MikevanderPoel.com is title, “7 Ways to Encourage Yourself to Read More Books“. It’s for those who consider themselves to be reluctant readers but still believe in the value of reading. One of the ways to find more motivation is to associate reading with pleasure. Give yourself a reward after you finish and treat yourself to your favorite snack or go for a walk at your local park. You can always end your session on a cliffhanger too, of course.
Until next week,
Mike van der Poel
