Hi All!
I hope you had a great week. As always, here’s your On-Track advice, a list of tips and tricks to keep you on track with your goals in life and business.
1. “Sometimes even the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life.” – Unknown
In Atomic Habits, James Clear describes how tiny actions can change the direction of your life. “Imagine you are flying from Los Angeles to New York City. If a pilot leaving from LAX adjusts the heading just 3.5 degrees south, you will land in Washington, D.C., instead of New York. Such a small change is barely noticeable at takeoff—the nose of the airplane moves just a few feet—but when magnified across the entire United States, you end up hundreds of miles apart.” That considered, what small change can you make today?
2. “Taking time to do nothing often brings everything into perspective.” – Doe Zantamata
When you’re so busy you can’t see straight, it’ll be very refreshing to take a break, clear your head, and just get into something else for a little while. Immerse yourself in a new book, watch a show, or do anything else that will take you out of your default way of thinking.
3. “Approach your goals like a game of tennis. Focus on the point, not the score.” – Mike van der Poel
When I consider the size of my goals, it sometimes feels like I’m staring up at a huge staircase from the bottom; There are many steps to climb, with no end in sight. And no matter how many hours I work on a given day, or how late I stay up to solve a problem, it can often still feel like I’m not inching any closer toward achieving them.
I’m able to put this struggle into perspective when I consider how professional tennis players approach their game. Rafael Nadal once said, “I play each point like my life depends on it.” He doesn’t focus on the outcome of the game but concentrates all his efforts on a much smaller goal. You have to focus on the point, not the score.
Until next week,
Mike van der Poel
