Hi All!
Hope you’re having a fantastic week. As always, here’s your weekly On-Track advice, a list of tips and tricks to keep you on top of your goals. This week’s emphasis is on staying long-term oriented.
1. “To really find out how strong and resilient you are, you must embrace uncertainty. Feel the fear and do it anyway.” – Luke Tee Tet
Sometimes, when we are in a tough situation, an inspirational quote can help us focus on what we need to do. That’s the purpose of the above quote, and this newsletter in general. I’d like you to read the above quote again. Let it sink in.
Working toward a goal is challenging. You will experience many downturns, and perhaps even failures. Negative experiences will test your character. But what makes someone successful is not how often they fall, but how many times they get back up. Those who are strong and tough continue despite how difficult the journey gets.
2. “We must develop a thick skin. With an unshakeable sense of self, and a commitment to being compassionate, nothing will faze you.” – Mari Smith
Having thick skin means that you can keep yourself from getting upset, offended, or disturbed. It’s an ability that will help you move past obstacles that many other people would get caught up on. If someone judges you but you’re thick-skinned, you will not take their comments personally. Their words will go in one ear and out the other. If you’d like to stop caring what other people think about you, I suggest you check out this article. The strategies I discuss have helped me a lot in both my personal and professional life.
3. “Goal setting is a two-step process; It begins with selecting an objective, and it is followed by designing a plan of action. It’s really that simple.” – Mike van der Poel
Big goals require a long-term mindset. It takes months to get good at something. By the same token, it takes many years for a business to take off. Remind yourself of what you want to achieve in 5 or 10 years, and then put in consistent work until you’ve achieved that goal. In this week’s article, “The Benefits of Goal Setting and Why Everybody Should Do It”, I explain how you can set a long-term goal. Take a read now if you’d like.
Until next week,
Mike van der Poel
