Hi All,
I hope you had a great workweek. Here are your weekly tips and tricks to keep you on top of your goals.
1. Just like water flows downhill, we too want to take the easy route.
It is human nature to want the greatest outcome for the least amount of work. The Law of Least Effort states that we want to achieve maximum results with minimum amount effort. Be wary of this and tread with caution: Large accomplishments do not spring forth from the path of least resistance.
2. Eliminate sources of friction from your day-to-day life.
In my writing, I often draw an analogy between friction in physics and friction in life. In physics, when one object is sliding on another, it starts slowing down due to friction. Similarly, friction in life is anything that continues to slow you down, exhaust you, or causes some sort of inconvenience. What are some sources of friction in your day-to-day life?
Your Weekly Digest: Impulse Shopping
Monday’s article covered impulse shopping, the tendency to buy products without planning in advance. It’s my most extensive article yet and is accordingly titled, “25 Simple Ways to Stop Impulse Buying and Save Money“.
One of the topics I discuss is electronic payments. Since people first started using money 5,000 years ago, currency forms have changed significantly. Today, most of us don’t carry cash; we use our debit and credit cards for almost every transaction.
Studies show that we spend approximately 12 to 18% more money with electronic payment methods. Visa Tap to Pay, Apple Pay, or PayPal reduce the friction that comes with spending money. Modern payment technologies are based on the Law of Least Effort: They allow us to meet an immediate need with little effort.
We can make an impulse purchase within seconds. We must, for that reason, develop a strong skill set to defend ourselves. With this week’s article, I hope to show you that saving money is not just possible, but it can also be easy if you have the right strategies at your disposal.
Until next week,
Mike van der Poel
