Hi All!
I hope you’re doing well. As always, here’s your weekly On-Track advice, a list of tips and tricks to keep you on top of your goals in life and business.
1. “Stop reading the news for a week. You will see that the world will turn from red to blue.” — Mehmet Murat Ildan
The coronavirus news cycle can be upsetting, especially now that yet another variant has mutated its way into circulation. Headlines filled with hopelessness, disaster, and tragedy give the impression that the pandemic will never come to an end. We don’t know whether that is true or not, but one thing is clear: Negative headlines have a significant impact on our mood.
If you’re up for a challenge, I encourage you to stop reading the news for a week. Uninstall all news apps on your phone, or tell the mail delivery service that you will not need a newspaper for the upcoming week. Chances are that after one week, you will find yourself in a calmer, healthier, and more thoughtful state.
2. “Books allow you to fully explore a topic and immerse yourself in a deeper way than most media today.” — Mark Zuckerberg
The internet has conditioned us into searching for stimulating content. Headlines, pictures, or videos produce “wow” moments and leave us wanting more. The problem with consuming short bits of information is that you rarely ever find posts that are in-depth. The best way to learn about something in detail is by reading books.
3. “Not being able to focus on reading is a matter of concentration.” — Mike van der Poel
This week’s blog is called, “Can’t Focus on Reading? Here Are 6 Strategies for Better Attention.” Difficulty concentrating is a normal occurrence for most people, including myself. Personally, I find it harder to focus on a task as the day draws to a close, which is why I reserve time to read for the mornings. At what time of the day do you have the greatest attention span?
Until next week,
Mike van der Poel
